Online Password Manager, What is It ?

Post by Amina Delali. July 07th, 2022
What is it?
According to Wikipedia a password manager is simply a software that you can use to store, manage, and generate your passwords safely. The passwords in questions are those you use to access local and online applications.
Types of Password Managers
Again, according to Wikipedia, you can have several types of passwords managers:
- passwords managers that you can access and use locally. They can be installed simply on your computer, or accessed via a dedicated hardware device used as a key.
- passwords managers that you can access and use online. They are offered as web services that you can access simply via your browser.
Why use a Password Manager
It is recommended to have a unique strong password for each app you use. But the more stronger the password is, the more it is difficult to retain. And the more app you have, the more you will need new passwords to remember.
So to avoid this headache, the password manager came to rescue. All you will have to do is to remember a one strong password to access the tool, and all your other passworda will be securely encrypted and saved.
Why use an Online Password Manager
The online version of a password manager comes in handy when you use different devices, and all your login information are already synchronized across all these devices thanks to the password manager you are using.
You can argue that using the browser password manager can do just the same. The thing is that most of them don't encrypt your passwords. And if they do, their synchronization features are limited.
My Criteria of Selection
The criteria I will look for to select an online password manager are really related to my own preferences. They are selected independently of the password manager displayed here in the affiliate cards, and that I will talk about in the next post. So, for me, this is what I will look for:
- I want a password manager simple to configure and to use. I want a simple and intuitive interface, with a minimal and simple installation if needed.
- I don't want it necessarily to generate strong passwords for me. But I want it to be able to indicate if a password is weak or not.
- The possibility to use it for free. And if I want a paid version, I don't want it to be too expensive.
- Unlimited and easy synchronization across my different devices.
- I want the passwords to be secured with the latest strong rarely breached security technology.
- If I forget the one password of the tool, I want the existence of a solution to recover it, but at the same time I want my passwords to still remain safe ( the solution doesn't jeopardize the security of the hall system ).
- I don't want a limitation of the number of passwords I can save.
