NordPass Password Manager: Personal Plans

Post by Amina Delali. August 05th, 2022
What is it?
- It is a password manager with an online secured vault. To use it with your browser you have to:
- create an account
- download the corresponding app and install it on your device.
- install the corresponding browser plugin if your device is a computer.
- So, you can access all your saved passwords locally (from the desktop and phone app), and online from the secured vault with your browser.
- The browser plugin will help you use, create, and save new logins information if you are using your desktop.
- It has 3 personal, and 2 business plans. In the following, we will only talk about the personal plans, and the use of NordPass password manager on a computer.
Features
- Of course, it allows you to save and edit your passwords. An unlimited number of passwords. In both the free and the paid versions. Yes, it has a free version that you can use right now, without providing any credit cards information.
- The use of a new and strong encryption algorithm (a stream cipher ) called XChaCha20. To learn more about it you can check the NordPass blog at this page.
- With the extension installed in your browser, your login information will be filled out and available to you instantly.
- You can secure your notes, your credit cards details, and your personal information like addresses and phones numbers.
- You can launch the websites related to your saved logins directly from the app (online and local app).
- You can organize your password into different folders that you can create by yourself.
- It allows you to generate strong passwords with the possibility to specify the criteria to use with these passwords: type, length, capital letters, digits, and symbols.
- You can specify the duration of the inactivity of your device that will trigger the auto-lock ( so you will have to renter your master password again ). You can also define how long copied that will be kep in the clipboard.
- You can import and export your passwords in a csv file. The importation can be from a browser or from an other password manager.
- You can access to the list of websites that you didn't want to save their related passwords.
- You can launch the app at startup which is convenient. Because, when using the browser extension, you will already have your app launched (necessary to be able to use the extension).
- With premium features (one of the two paid personal plans) you can:
- share your passwords, and add trusted contacts that will have advanced sharing options.
- Check your passwords health ( list the passwords that are weak, and those that are reused for multiple accounts).
- Check if your information has been leaked online
- Setup an emergency access ( manage the people that can access your vault in case of an emergency). But you can have a recovery code for free as well as multi-factor authentication
- You can stay logged in at most 6 devices at a time. Nevertheless, in the free version you can access to your vault from any device, but one device at a time.
- Concerning the health of your passwords, you can check if they are strong or not even in the free version. All you have to do is to click on a specific password and you will have an indication of its health. But to get tips of how to get it strong in case the password is weak, you have upgrade to the premium version.
- With both the free and the premium plan you can have only one user account.
- With the Family plan you can have:
- up to 6 user accounts
- all the premium features
- the ability to manage the plan members.
What I found interesting
- The availability of secure notes: some login information can not be saved in a regular username and password; like the keys that can not be saved automatically, so I can write them down in secure notes.
- Of course the availability of the free version. But what it is great about it, is that you can have all the necessary features for free, and you can be able to know for sure what you will get as features in the paid plans, and if you really need those features.
- Unlimited number of passwords to save.
- The possibility to start the import of passwords from the app itself (it shows you a sort of tutorials of how to import from each browser and from each password manager).
- You can easily export your passwords.
- The ability to see if your passwords are strong or not, even in the free version.
- The data breach scanner of the premium version: so you can know which information have been leaked online.
- The availability of the family plan; if you need at least 4 user accounts, and at most 6 users. So, the pricing will be reduced, compared to the one you get if you pay for the accounts individually.
Final Thoughts
Try it, use it, it's free. If you think that you need more features, just upgrade to the desired plan.
If you have information, or a user experience with NordPass, it will be really helpful if you write it down in the comments below, bye 🙂.
