How to Create Presentations with Canva?
To create a presentation in Canva, simply do this:
- Click on the Create Design button.
- Write on the search bar the word: presentation
- Select the type of presentation you want. The usual ones are Presentation (16:9), and Presentation (4:3)
After selecting your presentation's type, you are in the design canvas ready to create your presentation
This is what you can do:- Everything you do with a regular canvas: adding design elements. Applying templates, styles, or layouts (notice that layouts are not available for all design types). Adding text. Embedding videos. And using the other Canva apps.
- Everything you do with regular design page: duplicating, hiding, or locking the page. You can also add different types of transitions between two consecutive pages.
- Expand a page: you can expand your page to a Whiteboard with an unlimited canvas size. You can of course, collapse it back to a normal page
- Make a presentation: you will have the option to present your slides directly from Canva, by clicking on the Present button. You can present in 4 different ways:
- Standard: You enter full screen mode with the first page of your presentation. You will have a menu of different functions, at the bottom of the presentation window. You can navigate manually by clicking on the slides themselves: right side for next page, and left side for previous page. You can also navigate through the buttons on the bottom menu. Not only this, but you can access the features of the next 2 presentation types: presenter view and autoplay from that same bottom menu.
- Autoplay: Same as standard, but the navigation will be automatic. The next pages, will automatically appear. You can pause the autoplay from the bottom menu at any moment. You can also access the presenter view type from that same menu, by clicking on the open presenter view button.
- Presenter View: You will have access to 2 windows, the audience window; that represent what will the audience see. And the presenter window, that is available to only you. It has a timer, and a side menu bar. You can view the pages as thumbnails at the bottom of the window, and you can navigate through them. You can also navigate through the main slides or the navigation buttons.
- Present and Record: With this type, you can record yourself while presenting your slides. The videos will be uploaded directly to Canva at the end of the recording.
For the first 3 types cited above, you can; and you may not believe it, make a live online presentation. Which mean, you can host a live with Canva.
It is called Canva Live, and it is available from the Canva Desktop Version.
- From your Canva presentation design, click on Present, select your type of presentation (not Present and record), then click on Present again, you will be directed to the presentation screen, in which you can access the Canva Live side bar:
- With the Standard and Autoplay presentation type, you can show the Canva Live side bar by clicking on the interactive Q&A chat button, available at the bottom of the presentation window.
- With the Presenter view presentation type, you can access the Canva live from the side bar, and by selecting the Canva live tab.
- You click on Start new session and you will get a message containing 6 digits code. You can copy the message with a Copy button , but now you are Live
- To share the live with your audience, you ask them to visit canva.live (or live.canva.cn for China users ) and to enter the 6 digits code.
- During the live session, the End live button will be available. You can end the live by clicking on that button.
Sharing and saving options
Not only you can present from Canva, but you can also recuperate your work, by either sharing it, or downloading it.
- You can share the presentation to your social media platform, or you can directly share your "for view only" link. And this is the second option I used to share this guide.
- You can download it!. You read me right! You can download your presentation, not only as a pdf, or a video, but you can also download it; hear me or read me out here, as a PowerPoint presentation. I know, it sounds insane, but it is true. You just used Canva, to create a wonderful Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.
Insights
The Insights are available from the Canva Pro version. When you click on the insights button, you will have access to the following metrics:
- Views: The total number of view, and viewers. With a graph showing the unique daily views.
- Engagement: The engagement received by your shared presentation.
- Unique links: If you created unique links with Canva Pro, you can see the number of views per each link, and their average duration.
- Social media: The engagement received by your shared presentation on Social media.
